THE ORNAMENT

Six years ago today we brought Ethan home from Gainesville in an ambulance. Seventeen days before I had decorated our Christmas tree.

I was so thankful to be home. I was thankful to have our family together. To be able to sleep in my own bed, even if it would be for a few short hours.

I was very aware of what God had done for us in Gainesville.

Ethan was still alive.

But when I walked in our house the afternoon of Christmas Eve's Eve, and I saw the ornament, I realized that it is always possible for a broken heart to be broken just a little more.

The ornament is a little Styrofoam ball with Ethan's hand print on it. He made it in the church nursery when he was 8 months old.

It was always hung at the top of the tree, right by the angel.

And, it still hangs at the top of our tree.

It reminds us all that "Nothing is impossible with God".

And, it reminds me that "Mothers can do all things through Christ."
